Common FAQs for this Latte.

CAN YOU ADD COFFEE TO THIS IF DESIRED?

Absolutely! Feel free to add 2 shots of espresso or a ½ cup of strongly brewed coffee if you’d like.

WHAT IS THE CONSISTENCY OF THIS LATTE?

This latte is so easily drinkable and not thick in texture at all. This drink is lighter and has a beautiful creamy and foaminess to it due to the cocowhip on top. SO Delicious!

CAN I USE A DIFFERENT MILK?

Yup! If you aren't a fan of Almond milk you can use another plant-based milk. You can even try making your own! Check out my tips for The Best Milk Alternatives for Your Entire Household

CAN I SUBSTITUTE THE COCOWHIP?

Definitely. For added pizzazz, feel free to added frothed milk to the top of your latte instead of CocoWhip or you can drink it without a topping. The possibilities are endless.

CHAI 101!

Chai is the Hindi word for tea, despite the fact that most people in the English-speaking world think of it as a "flavour" of tea. After the British colonisation of India, it wasn't too long before Indians made their own version of a sweet and milky black tea, with the addition of spices.

The concept of a milky tea is common in the United Kingdom, and after the British colonization of India, it wasn't too long before it happened. And there you have it, my dear friends; that is the origin of masala chai AKA chai!

Is Chai Healthy?

Simply put? Yes. It's got a tonne of health benefits like-

  • Rich in antioxidants
  • Improves digestion
  • Increases energy and alertness
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Soothes, headaches and nausea

Now, let’s dig right into this recipe, shall we?

Easy Apple Cider:

Add the apples, cinnamon sticks, all spice, and cloves to a medium saucepan over medium-high heat and cover with water, leaving about an inch of space at the top so that it doesn’t boil over. Let it simmer until the apples have softened entirely and everything becomes fragrant, about 15-20 minutes.

Once done, remove from heat and carefully scoop spoonfuls (using a large cooking spoon) of the mixture and place it into a strainer over a large bowl, squeezing the apples to remove the excess juice. Continue this until all of apple cider is strained into the bowl. Discard the apples, cinnamon sticks and cloves. Set aside.

Chai Tea:

In a medium saucepan on medium-high heat, add the milk and bring to a boil for 1-2 minutes. Remove the milk from heat and add tea bags and let them steep for 5-6 minutes.

Once fully steeped, remove tea bags and whisk in 1 tablespoon chai tea spice mix, ½ cup apple cider, vanilla, and Agave until well combined.

Combine:

To serve, pour apple-chai mixture in prepared mugs and top with CocoWhip, if preferred and sprinkle with additional chai spice mix.

Sip up and enjoy!

Tips & Tricks

  • SWEETENER: You can always use maple syrup, Vegan honey, or organic brown sugar as a substitute for Agave. For vegan honey—-Bee Free Honee, click link.
  • LATTE: Best when consumed once prepared. Not recommended to be stored.
  • APPLE CIDER: Keep any leftovers in the refrigerator, tightly covered in your pitcher for up to 5 days. Can be frozen for up to 3 months and thawed in the refrigerator.
  • FAQ: See common Q + A's about this latte in the blog post above recipe.
  • IS THERE OTHER METHODS TO MAKING THIS? Yup. While I enjoy the slow and true cooking method of using my stovetop, you can make this latte within your blender. Some high-tech blenders like the Vitamix has a heating mode which allows you to blend and warm at the same time, which is one way to do it. Of course, if you’re like me, then using your stovetop is just as easy.
  • WHAT PLANT-BASED MILKS ARE GOOD FOR THIS RECIPE? My go-to plant-based milk is Almond milk from Califia Farms. However, you can always use your fave or one of the following: coconut milk, oat milk (froths/foams VERY WELL), flax milk, etc.
