There's something so soothing and healthy-feeling about freshly brewed tea. I literally enjoy tea regardless of the season or  weather and most of that is thanks to my upbringing in a Jamaican household. Seriously----tea is a staple in the Jamaican culture and may herbs and "bushes" are used for medicinal purposes as well as overall health upkeep. This Roasted Dandelion Strawberry Tea is one of my faves because I truly love the nuttiness of roasted dandelion tea and I often drink it, especially for kidney cleansing and optimal health.

But of course, the addition of strawberries and lemons definitely add a tastier touch to things and it's such a great summer drink when served cold that also includes health benefits. A total win, win.

Whether it's a steaming mug of an Easy Warm Apple Chai Latte in the winter or a refreshing  Iced Chai Tea Latte when the weather is hot, I'm a total tea person.

Now that strawberries are in season and as sweet as ever, I wanted to combine my favorite berries with my favorite drink! Overall, this roasted dandelion strawberry tea is a bit bitter, a bit sweet, and a bit sour. It's the perfect balance for a sophisticated and detox-friendly afternoon pick-me-up.

This tea in particular is awesome because it's super easy to makeconveniently can be used as a 'meal prep'immune-boosting, and can be enjoyed either hot or cold.

How to Make Roasted Dandelion Strawberry Tea

This tea looks impressive, but it's just as easy to make as your classic brewed tea. Grab some summer berries and a lemon or two, and you're well on your way to making a delicious homemade drink.

For this tea, there are TWO options: stovetop or tea pot. For the stovetop option, simply add the water, strawberries, tea bags, and lemons to a saucepan, bringing everything to a boil before steeping it. Once steeped, discard of ingredients and stir in your sweetener. Pour into prepared mug(s) and wallah!

For the tea pot option, add the strawberries, tea bags, and lemons to a medium tea pot and pour the boiling water atop everything. Let it sit and steep for 5-10 minutes until the water changes to a dark amber or brown color. Stir in your sweetener, pour tea into prepared mug(s) and wallah!

Ingredients

Here's what you need to brew a batch of dandelion and strawberry tea:

  • Fresh strawberries. If you can, choose organic local berries for the best flavor and nutrition. Slice them evenly so they get plenty of fruit flavor in this tea.
  • Roasted dandelion tea. This is a delicious herby, nutty, and grassy tea that's the perfect complement to sweet, juicy berries as well as includes many health benefits like helping the kidney to filter out toxins, potassium for healthy cell growth, helps to reduce stress on the liver, etc.. You'll need about 2-3 tea bags depending on how strong you want the tea flavor to be. I love Traditional Medicinals.
  • Honey. This adds natural sweetness with antioxidant properties. You can also substitute with Meedjol dates or maple syrup for a vegan-friendly option.
  • Lemon. Lemon adds brightness and acidity as well as additional health benefits like high amounts of Vitamin C.
  • Water. You'll need boiling water or filtered water if making this tea over the stovetop.

Based on research, it is said to be safe for you to consume dandelion tea daily because it's caffeine-free and has great health benefits. Dandelion root itself is often used as a detoxifier for the liver to help calm, soothe, and clean it. In addition, roasted dandelion root is shown to cleanse the kidneys and help it to better remove toxins----making it a great alternative for detoxing.

Health Benefits of Strawberries

It’s strawberry season, which means it’s time to celebrate! I’ll share my all-time favorite strawberry recipes plus the benefits of enjoying strawberries. Known for their plump and juicy flavor, strawberries are a summer staple for good reason. I’ve always been a big strawberry fan so in honor of strawberry season, I wanted to answer some of the most asked questions about strawberries.

Sweetener Options? Vegan-friendly?

Absolutely! I like to add a bit of natural sweetener to most things that I drink, including this Roasted Dandelion Strawberry Tea. Maple syrup is a great option because it's vegan and has antioxidants, much like honey which adds additional nutrients. However, you can try any healthy sweetener substitutions you like.

In fact, this post about The Best Healthy Sugar Alternatives + Substitutes is a great place to start! For example, you can use a ripe banana to sweeten your ice cubes in general when using other ingredients.

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 20 minutes
Serves: 2 servings

Ingredients

TEA:

  • 2 cups sliced fresh strawberries, stems removed
  • 2-3 organic roasted dandelion tea bags (Use less or more depending on your desired strength in dandelion flavor.)
  • 1 organice lemon, sliced thin
  • ½ cup raw honey (You can add additional sweetener, if desired)
  • Hot boiling water (About 4 cups; Use filtered water if making tea via the stovetop option)

GARNISH (OPTIONAL):

  • Sliced fresh strawberries
  • Lemon slices or wedges
  • Fresh mint leaves

Instructions

TO MAKE THE TEA (STOVETOP):

  • Start by adding the filtered water (4 cups) to medium saucepan over medium-high heat and bring it to a boil. Add your tea bags, strawberries, and lemon slices, and let everything continue to boil for another 1-2 minutes. Turn off the heat and let tea bags and ingredients continue to steep for about 5-10 minutes. NOTE: The longer that the tea bags steep, the stronger the flavor. You can let them steep up to 30 minutes before it begins to get bitter. Finally, add in the honey, stir to combine and carefully pour your tea into prepared mug(s), discarding of the strawberries and lemon slices. Add garnish, if desired.

TO MAKE THE TEA (TEA POT):

  • In a large tea pot, add the strawberries, tea bags, and lemon slices followed by hot boiling water. Allow everything to sit for 5-10 minutes until the tea bags steep fully and the water begins to change in color----a dark brown. Once done, pour tea into prepared mug(s) and add honey to sweeten, stir and add garnish as desired.
  • Sip and Enjoy!
