By dictionary definition, Detox is the psychological or medicinal removal of toxic substances from the human body. Therefore, detoxes like this one helps your body to reset and get rid of toxins (which can be built up by many factors internally and externally) so that we can feel rejuvenated, improve our health, and help with weight loss.
Overall, a sugar detox is when you abstain from consuming sugar, specifically "added sugars"---which lasts for 1 week or up to 1 month. As a result, this reduces sugar intake, curb sugar cravings, and/or improve overall health.

The first step to making this detoxifying drink is to make sure that you prep your produce by squeezing out the juices, peeling, and slicing the others. Add the filtered water, carrots, apple, ginger, freshly squeezed orange juice, cucumber, kale, parsley, lemon juice, and apple cider vinegar to a blender and blend until smooth. For a thinner, more juice-like consistency, strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve, cheesecloth, or nut milk bag.
Pour the juice into glasses or a bottle and serve chilled. Stir or shake well before drinking, especially if it has been sitting for a few minutes.
It just takes a few fresh ingredients for this Cleansing Sugar Detox Juice recipe:

Well, the short answer is that each ingredient has a ton of health benefits, therefore, putting them together adds more power! I delve further into their individual benefits throughout this post, but that's really my main reason for adding them together for this detox.
No! You don't need a special juicer to make this juice. When you puree everything in a blender, you keep all of the fiber and nutrients from the fruits and vegetables in the juice, rather than straining them out. This makes the drink more filling, healthy, and cleansing.
Of course, if you don't like pulp in your Cleansing Sugar Detox Juice, simply strain it through a fine-mesh strainer before storing or serving.
Again, if you enjoy making your own juices at home or need a few ideas for whenever you want to cleanse + detox, I've put together a few additional combos that I enjoy making as well. Just use about the same amount of ingredients for each as in this Cleansing Sugar Detox Juice for an easy whip together:
Kidney Flush: Apples, beets, celery, spinach, cucumber, lemon, tomatoes, + carrots.
Clarity: Carrots, oranges, ginger, turmeric, + black pepper.
Cleansing: Pineapple, ginger, turmeric, black pepper, + lime.
Cranberry Cleanse: Pear, apple. cucumber, celery, spinach, cranberries.
Hormone Imbalance: Celery, cucumber, + green apple.
Anti-inflammatory Juice: Pineapple, cucumber, lime, jalapeño, + mint.

OK, so apple cider vinegar is one of my GO-TO, go-to's! Yes, I had to say that twice. Haha. But honestly, I'm in love with ACV for so many reasons, especially since it's one of the acids that I use for most of my vegan recipes, especially in banking.
However, when it comes using ACV as a natural remedy, I'm such a huge fan.
Just be sure to get the Organic unfiltered ACV with the mother---I get mine from Bragg. Why? Well, because ACV has some powerful properties and benefits which includes:
Of course, like many home remedies, ACV shouldn't be overused due to it's powerful nature. On average, consuming 1-2 tsps or 1-2 Tbsps per day mixed in a large glass of water is recommended, especially since it's super acidic.
Did you know that carrots are super beneficial? They are great sources of beta-carotene, fiber, vitamin-K, potassium, and antioxidants.
Studies also suggest that consuming carrots regularly may help reduce cholesterol. Plus, the stories are true, they also help improve eye health! That's thanks to all of the beta-carotene in the bright orange veggies.
Carrots also help to lower blood sugar levels thanks to plant fiber. This also feeds the good bacteria in your gut, which aides better digestion and is tied to a healthy immune system.
But yes---cucumber is a fruit and it has some pretty awesome benefits as well:
And the list goes on.
One of the best things about this juice is how flexible it is. If you’re missing an ingredient or want to adjust the flavor to fit your taste, these easy substitutions still keep the juice fresh, nourishing, and delicious.
Filtered Water: Used as the hydrating base for the juice. Substitutes: Alkaline water, coconut water, or cold herbal tea for a slightly different twist.
Carrots: Add natural sweetness and earthy depth. Substitutes: Sweet potatoes (steamed first for blending), extra apple, or beets for a deeper flavor.
Apple: Balances the greens and citrus with natural sweetness. Substitutes: Pear, green grapes, pineapple, or another apple variety like Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Gala.
Ginger Root: Adds warmth, spice, and a refreshing kick. Substitutes: Ground ginger (small amount), fresh turmeric root for a different wellness twist, or omit for a milder taste.
Navel Orange Juice: Brings brightness and natural sweetness. Substitutes: Mandarin oranges, clementines, grapefruit for a tangier flavor, or extra lemon with a sweeter fruit.
Cucumber: Adds refreshing hydration and a light, cooling flavor. Substitutes: Celery for a more savory juice, zucchini for a neutral option, or extra water for thinning.
Kale: Adds earthy greens and extra nutrients. Substitutes: Spinach, romaine, Swiss chard, or baby greens for a milder flavor.
Fresh Parsley: Adds brightness and that fresh, cleansing taste. Substitutes: Cilantro, mint, or extra kale/spinach.
Lemon Juice: Adds tang and helps brighten all the other ingredients. Substitutes: Lime juice or extra orange juice if you want it less tart.
Apple Cider Vinegar: Adds a tangy finish and complements the citrus and ginger beautifully. Substitutes: Fresh lemon juice, lime juice, or omit entirely if preferred.
If you swap ingredients, try to keep a balance of:
That way, the juice still tastes refreshing and balanced.

In case you weren’t aware, kale has many health benefits that makes it a great option for detox drinks. Actually, it’s considered a superfood and comes packed with protein, Vitamin A, C, + K, along with other minerals/vitamins, which is why I wanted to share some of the few ways to prepare kale for detoxifying benefits:
Whether you make this Cleansing Sugar Detox Juice often or just feel like sprucing things up for additional powerful health benefits or for a greater taste, here are a few ingredients that you can add to the mix:
Yes! You can blend all the ingredients with the water and then strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve, cheesecloth, or nut milk bag for a smoother juice-like texture.
It has a naturally light sweetness from the carrots, apple, and orange, but it still tastes fresh and earthy because of the cucumber, kale, parsley, and ginger.
Granny Smith is great if you want a tarter juice, but sweeter apples like Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Gala also work well.
Absolutely. The flavor will change slightly, but the juice will still be refreshing and delicious.
For the freshest flavor and best quality, enjoy it right away. If needed, store it in a sealed glass jar or bottle in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.
Many people enjoy juices like this regularly as part of a balanced routine. Since it includes fresh produce and no added sugar, it can be a great option when enjoyed alongside nourishing meals.
Yes, but it’s best fresh. If making ahead, store it in an airtight glass container and shake well before drinking.
Apple cider vinegar adds a slightly tangy flavor and pairs well with the citrus and ginger for a bright, refreshing finish.
A little—yes, but it depends on how you make it. When you fully strain blended juice, you remove much of the fiber, which is one of the most important parts of whole fruits and vegetables for digestion, fullness, and blood sugar support. The good news is that the juice can still retain plenty of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and hydration benefits, especially when enjoyed fresh.
How can I salvage or boost the nutrition?
If you want to keep more of the nutritional value, here are a few easy options:
Don’t strain it completely — leave in some of the pulp for extra fiber
Blend instead of juice for a smoothie-style detox drink
Add chia seeds or ground flaxseeds after blending for extra fiber
Pair it with a protein-rich breakfast or snack to make it more balanced
Use the leftover pulp in soups, muffins, veggie broth, or smoothie bowls so nothing goes to waste
Best of both worlds: lightly strain the juice instead of fully removing all the pulp. That way, you still get a smoother texture while holding onto more fiber and nutrients.

LOVE THIS RECIPE?
LET US KNOW!
Looking forward to making this, but does it not lose the nutritional value after it’s been juiced or puréed if not consumed immediately?
And should it be consumed right after consuming lots of sugar or just anytime of the day?
Hey Pamela! I really hope that you enjoy this! Also, yes and no in terms of the loss of nutritional value! Exposure to air (oxidation) breaks down nutrients rapidly, meaning it is best to drink them immediately. While nutrients degrade, storing in an airtight, refrigerated container or glass jar for up to 24-72 hours can minimize loss---which is what I usually do! Lastly, I like to drink this on an empty stomach in the mornings and you can definitely drink it throughout the day with meals, if desired. I wouldn't consume lots of sugar just to drink it. It's best to reduce your sugar intake to help it best work! I hope that this all helps! 🙂
What can I substitute for oranges, I'm allergic to them.
Sandra
Hi Sandra! You can sub with lime or add an extra apple, if preferred! 🙂
I thoroughly enjoyed this and plan on making some more. I have been drinking in 8 ounce servings once a day. Should I be drinking more/ less, please advise me. Thank You
Hi Jim! I'm so happy that you enjoy this juice! I've been drinking this since the start of the New Year and you can definitely drink 8 ounces twice per day for 3-5 days, if you'd like. Of course, cleansing and detoxes can be personalized, however, that's my general rule of thumb for the best results. I hope that this helps! 🙂
thank you! very refreshing even though I skipped the ice because had a tooth issue. it is a little thin for me though because i prefer more of a smoothie, but I can adjust water for next time. however, it drinks faster than a smoothie so I liked that:)
Hi Ande! I'm so glad that you enjoyed this juice! It's truly one of my go-to's! Thanks so much for giving it a try! 🙂
