Healthy Blood Orange Kiwi Drink

I couldn't be happier with my latest juice/drink recipes. While I enjoy whipping together sweet treats and good food, I definitely have enjoyed making healthy drinks that can not only be indulged in, but also that add nutritional benefit.

I remember making one of my first drinks---this Fresh Watermelon Cucumber Mint Juice and falling in complete love with the idea of making refreshing drinks that were also healthy! It's become my newest thing. Of course, I love making milkshakes, but there is just something about making a healthy drink that gets me every time.

But can we talk about these Blood Oranges for a second? I've always admired these beauties on other blogs, but never got around to using them myself. For those of you who are like me, let me start by saying, they are really good. I guess that I can describe them as being a really tart orange. They are fairly similar to their navel orange counterparts except for the tartness factor. Therefore, I've discovered that they go really well with something sweeter--which creates a nice balance.

The other interesting thing about blood oranges is that they actually "bleed". Yup. That't right. You definitely have to be careful of staining because the moment that they are sliced, they run out pretty quickly.

Surprisingly however, I've grown to love them and even made Cinnamon Rolls using them as an ingredient (That recipe will be coming soon!).

What's So Awesome About Blood Oranges, Anyway?

  • They are excellent sources of Vitamin C.
  • Contains Anthocyanin (the pigment that gives them a deep red color), which protects our cells from oxidation damage and may help reduce the risk of Heart Disease; also helps to improve memory.
  • Low in carbs and a good source of fiber.

On another note, if you're looking for some great drinks for the Spring, this Lemon Blackberry Mint Tea is a really good option! It’s all about the bold mint flavors paired with the bit of tartness from the lemon and slight sweetness from the blackberries. Then there is Cucumber Ginger Lemon Detox Juice which has been super popular lately! This recipe is great as a detox or a boost in digestion, overall, this recipe is completely natural, easy to make, and perfect for any day or season.

Of course, we have a ton of Drink recipes on Orchids + Sweet Tea and you can feel free to browse through the options!
