I love using natural remedies for my health and when it comes to keeping my body in tip top shape, I try to incorporate recipes like this one to best ensure that the body feels refreshed. Therefore, this Cucumber Ginger Lemon Detox Juice is one that I use as a go-to whenever I need a great cleanse or refresh for overall health! Well, the short answer is that each ingredient has a ton of health benefits, therefore, putting them together adds more power! I delve further into their individual benefits throughout this post, but that's really my main reason for adding them together for this detox.

Before we dig into this recipe, did you know that Cucumber is an actual fruit and not vegetable? I know.

It's pretty crazy how we think of all fruit being sweet or at least a little sweet in the midst of any tartness. However, a cucumber just don't fit either category right? Is it just me? Haha.

Cucumber Ginger Lemon Detox Juice

When it comes to this Cucumber Ginger Lemon Detox Juice, it’s all about the spicy ginger and mint flavors paired with the bit of tartness from the lemon, green apple and freshness of the cucumber and thyme. Great as a detox or a boost in digestion, overall, this recipe is completely natural, easy to make, and perfect for any day or season. 
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 30 minutes
Total Time: 1 hour
Serves: 4 servings

Ingredients

JUICE:

  • 5-6 cups fresh water
  • 2 large cucumbers, peeled + diced
  • 1-2 ounces ginger roots, peeled + roughly chopped (I recommend starting with 1 ounce and then increasing based on preference)
  • juice of lemon (That's about 2 Tbsps!)
  • 1 medium Granny smith apple, skin on + sliced
  • handful fresh mint leaves, rinsed
  • 1-2 fresh thyme leaves, rinsed
  • ½ cup Agave

Instructions

TO MAKE THE GINGER-MINT SYRUP:

  • In a medium pot over medium-high heat, add water and let it begin to boil. Once boiling, add chopped ginger, mint leaves, + thyme leaves and boil for 5 minutes before reducing the heat to the lowest setting and letting it simmer for another 5-10 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and cover the pot to let everything cool + steep for 20-25 minutes.

BLEND EVERYTHING TOGETHER:

  • Next, add cooled mixture (leaves + chopped roots included) to a high-powered blender along with diced cucumbers + apple and blend on medium-high speed until smooth and 'foamy', about 2-3 minutes.
  • Add in juice of a lemon and Agave and blend for another 15-20 seconds.
  • Once done, slowly pour + strain juice into a pitcher, squeezing the pulp against the strainer to ensure that all juices are extracted. NOTE: If preferred, you can skip this step and leave pulp in.
  • To serve---add drink to prepared glass(es) and garnish, if desired. NOTE: If preferred, you can let the juice chill in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours before serving as well.
  • Sip and enjoy!

Tips & Tricks

  • STORAGE: Leftovers can be stored tightly sealed in a pitcher with plastic wrap over it or in a sealed mason jar in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Be sure to stir before serving.
  • ADDITIONAL BOOST: To add a boost to make this drink more powerful, you can add cayenne pepper, turmeric/black pepper, or apple cider vinegar to the mix (1 teaspoon of either)!
  • SWEETNESS: Add more maple syrup or Agave for more sweetness if needed, 1 tablespoon at a time.

  1. I must have used too muchmg ginger. I used 3 stalks. I can't drink sll this in 2 days. Is it ok to freeze some?

    • Hi Susan! So sorry to hear that---I'd recommend starting at about 1 ounce of ginger root and increasing depending on liking. Also, I'm not sure if it does well frozen, however, you can store it tightly sealed for 2-3 days. 🙂

    • Hi Juniette, It's definitely a preference! I like boiling them so that the steeped flavors are added to the drink as well as the leaves and ginger root gets softened. If you'd prefer to blend them without boiling, please feel free! 🙂

    • Hi! Personally, I never store it in the fridge for more than 2 days since everything tends to settle at the bottom after awhile due to the ingredients! Therefore, I recommend making batches every 2-3 days! 🙂

    • There is no specific timeframe to drink this, however, I usually drink it in 3-4 day increments with rest periods. 🙂

      Thanks so much for your feedback! It really depends on how much ginger flavor you'd like! A 1-inch piece of fresh ginger is the equivalent to 1 1/4 teaspoons of ground or 1 tablespoon crystallized ginger. Therefore, you can try using 3-4 inches of ginger to start and add additional depending on your taste. Hope this helps!
