These little pizzas are by far one of the funnest recipes I've made this year with my son, Kam for Halloween. Recently, we made meatballs mummies, which to be honest---was pretty fun. But Kam's Spooky French Bread Pepperoni Pizza are definitely a major hit in my house, especially afterwards when it's eating time! Haha.

While I don't celebrate Halloween personally, my son is such an avid holiday person and enjoys the festivities of every holiday, including this time of the year. If I'm honest, it's mostly for all of the spooky toys and character-driven costumes like Jack-O lantern, Super Mario, or whatever other character that he's into at the moment. Plus, these Halloween Witches Brew Mocktails are super fun to make also!

Which is why I enjoy creating these simple, yet fun recipes with him for a fun activity for the entire family and he loves it.

However, if you aren't into Halloween at all, these little pepperoni pizzas will come in handy on any day or season. They only use a small handful of ingredients, are super easy to make, fun for the entire family to join in, can be adjusted to a meatless option or additional toppings, and is ready in as little as 20 minutes.

How to Make Kam's Spooky French Bread Pepperoni Pizza

The first step in this Spooky French Bread Pepperoni pizza recipe is to cut the breads in half. Once those are set, simply mix together the pizzas sauce and seasonings, cut the pepperonis in halves for an easier topping, and assemble! Then you bake everything for 15-20 minutes until crisp and golden and wallah!

Ingredients for Spooky French Bread Pepperoni Pizza including baguettes, pizza sauce, and mozzarella cheese

Ingredients for French Bread Pepperoni Pizza

The delicious savory flavor of these homemade festive little pizzas come from a handful of simple ingredients. Here's what you need to make them.

  • French bread. You can also use baguettes. For a GF-friendly pizza, just substitute with a GF version of this bread.
  • Pepperoni. I use an organic uncured pork + beef version from Applegate. However, for a vegan option, Field Roast has a great plant-based version.
  • Pizza sauce. Use your favorite store-bought sauce or make your own. I like to use organic!
  • Mozzarella + Sharp Cheddar. I love to freshly-grate my cheese, however, you can use your favorite shredded brand---quality does matter! For a vegan option, So Delicious Dairy-Free or Violife cheese shreds tastes great.
  • Dried parsley, oregano, basil, and thyme. You can use fresh herbs, but you'll need a teaspoon of each.
  • Smoked paprika. This adds a subtle heat. If you like more spice, you can add more paprika.

Ingredients for Homemade Pizza Crust

For the best pizza, make your own crust! It’s easier than you might think, and my recipe takes just a few ingredients and little time to rise. Plus, the dough is seasoned for added flavor!

Here’s what you need:

  • All-purpose flour. I use organic flour. If you want to make gluten-free pizza dough, check out the notes section below the recipe!
  • Cane sugar. I like to use organic. All of the sugar will be consumed by the yeast in the dough.
  • Yeast. Use rapid-rise or instant yeast for dough that rises quickly.
  • Oil. I like to use Extra virgin olive oil mostly, but you can use Grapeseed oil also. This is a neutral oil.
  • Garlic powder. For added flavor and a hint of saltiness.

Can I Make Kam's Spooky French Bread Pepperoni Pizza Gluten-Free?

Absolutely! To make these little Spooky Pepperoni pizzas gluten-free, simply use a GF-friendly French bread or baguette or my easy gluten-free pizza crust recipe. The rest of the ingredients can remain the same.

Vegan Kam's Spooky French Bread Pepperoni Pizza?

Yes, indeed! These little pepperoni pizzas can definitely be enjoyed vegan by substituting two things: the cheese and pepperoni. For a vegan option, So Delicious Dairy-Free or Violife cheese shreds tastes great and Field Roast has great plant-based pepperoni slices.

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 20 minutes
Serves: 4 Pizzas

Ingredients

PIZZAS:

  • 1 loaf french bread or baguette, cut in halves
  • 1 cup freshly-grated mozzarella cheese (You can also use shredded)
  • ½ cup freshly-grated raw sharp cheddar (You can also use shredded)
  • 1 (5 oz.) package pork + beef uncured pepperoni, cut in halves (I love Applegate)
  • ½ cup organic pizza sauce, homemade or store-bought
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika

OTHER:

  • Halloween decor: spiders, skulls, spider web sheets, trays, etc. (optional)

Instructions

TO MAKE THE PIZZAS:

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil.
  • Place each halved french bread unto the prepared baking sheet, insides facing upward.
  • In a bowl, add together the pizza sauce, salt, black pepper, oregano, basil, parsley, and smoked paprika, mixing everything together until combined.
  • Spoon the pizzas sauce atop each halved french bread and top with sprinkles of mozzarella and sharp cheddar cheeses. Finally, add the halved pepperonis, covering the tops of each bread.
  • Transfer the pizzas to the hot oven and bake for 15-20 minutes or so, until the cheese has melted (and becomes bubbly), the pepperoni has become golden, and the bread is crispy and golden brown.
  • Once done, allow pizza to rest/cool for a few minutes (about 2-3 minutes) so that the cheese sets before cutting into bite-sized slices, using a pizza cutter or knife.
  • Bon Appetit!
