Oreo milkshake. Gosh, where do I even begin. Honestly, this milkshake has been my favorite sweet treats lately, especially during the summer months and I'm sure that it'll be the same in your household.

This Oreo milkshake has a few essential elements. First, the shake itself is made with vanilla ice cream, Oreo cookies, almond milk, and a pinch of salt. Then, I top it off with a homemade whipped cream and a few crushed Oreo cookies and wallah!

Making a Milkshake at Home

While milkshakes in general seem fancy when they’re from a creamery, they are so easy to make yourself. All you need is a high-powered blender and some of your favorite ingredients.

All milkshakes begin with ice cream. You can make the ice cream yourself or use your favorite store-bought variety. Make sure to use a type of ice cream that you really enjoy, as it is the base for the milkshake. Check out my no-churn vanilla ice cream recipe.

Next, you’ll need to decide on flavorings. If you want additional elements, add them here. You can add chocolate, vanilla extract, fruit, candy, flavored syrups, or anything else you enjoy.

Finally, you will need some milk to loosen the milkshake. You don’t want the milkshake too thick, it should be sippable with a straw. Use cow’s milk or your favorite plant-based milk.

Blend up the shake and serve it immediately to avoid melting. With a nice blender, you can make a milkshake with the perfect consistency.

Oreos, vanilla ice cream, and whipped cream

Are Oreos Vegan?

Yup! According to a bit research and the Oreo official website, they’ve been a dairy-free and vegan treat since they launched. Who knew—right? Despite the filling, most Oreos actually contain no form of milk or animal product, depending on the flavor which some might contain honey, etc.

As for which flavors are actually vegan, here’s a list of them to keep things safe when picking:

  • The original Oreo cookie
  • The Double Stuffed Oreo
  • The Most Stuffed Oreo
  • Oreo Gluten-Free
  • Oreo Double Stuffed Gluten-Free
  • Chocolate Creme Oreo
  • Dark Chocolate Oreo
  • Jave Chip Oreo
  • Carrot Cake Oreo
  • Lemon Oreos
  • Golden + Golden Doubled Stuffed Oreos
  • And a few others.

Ingredients for the Best Oreo Milkshake

The ingredients for this creamy Oreo shake are simple and easy to find. Here’s what you need:

  • Vanilla ice cream. I love premium ice cream like Van Leeuwen’s or Haagen Daazs.
  • Almond milk. You can use any kind of regular dairy or dairy-free milk you like for this shake.
  • Oreo cookies. Like I've stated above, you can always find out the best Oreo cookie flavors (I like to use Classic), however, you can use a healthier option like Back to Nature's Creme Cookies.
  • Sea salt. A pinch salt in sweet dishes highlights the well-rounded flavor.

How to Make Oreo Milkshake

Making this Oreo milkshake takes less than 5 ingredients and less than 5 minutes. It's that simple. Simply:

  • Add the vanilla ice cream, milk, Oreo cookies, and salt to a high-powered blender and blend on medium-high speed, until smooth, about 1-2 minutes.
  • Once milkshake consistency is met, pour milkshake into a tall glass(es), and top each milkshake with whipped cream and crushed Oreo cookies.
  • Add a straw and sip away and enjoy!

What Kind of Dairy-Free Milk is Best?

You can use any vegan milk you like for this Oreo milkshake recipe. I recommend making your own plant milk to save money and because it’s so easy! Here are some of the best dairy-free milk recipes to make at home:

How to Make Oreo Milkshake without Ice Cream

I know. Traditional milkshakes are made with ice cream as the base, however, I totally understand if you don't (or can't) use ice cream. No worries at all---you can still enjoy this Oreo milkshake without ice cream and here's what you'll need:

  • 2 cups Almond milk (or your fave plant-based milk)
  • 1 cup cold heavy cream, organic
  • 2 tsps vanilla extract
  • 1 cup organic powdered sugar
  • 2-3 cups ice cubes

Just like the recipe for this Oreo milkshake, you'll add all of these ingredients to a high-powered blender and blend until smooth. Wallah!

How to Make Oreo Milkshake without a Blender

If for any reason you aren't able to use a blender, you can still enjoy this delicious Oreo milkshake. Instead, you can use a hand-mixer and have a perfectly whipped milkshake on hand.

To start, simply crush the Oreo cookies and add them in a deep bowl with the milk. Let them sit for 2-3 minutes so that they soften a bit. Next, using an electric hand-mixer, whip on low-speed until cookies are blended in. Then add softened vanilla ice cream, and salt and whip again until smooth and combined.

Add your Oreo milkshake to your fave glass(es), top with ingredients and wallah!

Can I Make this Oreo Milkshake Dairy-Free or Vegan?

Absolutely! To make this recipe vegan, simply ensure that your Oreo cookies are vegan. Many of their flavors are, but always double check. Also, make sure that you use plant-based milk, dairy-free ice cream, and coconut whipped cream.
