Homemade Vegan Caramel Sauce

This creamy and sweet dairy-free caramel sauce is an all-purpose recipe to use on anything from a Caramel Macchiato Chia Pudding with Coconut to No-Churn Caramel Cone Ice Cream.

Here's what you need to make it:

  • Brown sugar. Use organic sugar to make sure it's vegan.
  • Vegan butter. Any kind will work. I like Earth Balance vegan buttery sticks in particular.
  • Coconut milk. Use full-fat milk for the best flavor and thickest texture.
  • Sea salt. Everyone knows that salted caramel is a favorite flavor.

Toppings for Vegan Caramel Apple Cider

This sweet treat deserves some special toppings to dress it up. Here's how I like to serve mugs of freshly made caramel cider:

  • Coconut whipped cream. You can make your own with full-fat coconut milk or find it at the store
  • Ground cinnamon for extra warming spice
  • More caramel sauce drizzled on top

This warming Dairy-Free Caramel Apple Cider is a warming cinnamon-spiced drink for fall with homemade cider and caramel sauce.
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 5 minutes
Serves: 2 servings

Ingredients

HOMEMADE APPLE CIDER:

  • 4 cups Homemade Apple Cider (See Notes!)

HOMEMADE VEGAN CARAMEL SAUCE:

  • 1 cup organic brown sugar
  • 6 Tbsps vegan butter
  • ½ cup full-fat coconut milk
  • pinch of sea salt

TOPPINGS:

  • Coconut whipped cream
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Caramel sauce

Instructions

HOMEMADE VEGAN CARAMEL SAUCE:

  • Heat the brown sugar in a medium skillet over medium-high heat and stir constantly using a rubber spatula until clumps are formed. Add vegan butter and continue to stir until everything has melted and become a dark 'amber-like' color. Continue to stir consistently until fully melted and bubbly, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Now, slowly whisk in the coconut milk and continue stirring until well incorporated and sauce has fully thickened. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly before using. Set aside.

DRINKS:

  • To serve, add 4 cups of homemade apple cider evenly into TWO 12 oz. cups or mason jar mugs and ¼ cup of caramel sauce (in each), mixing it together until combined and the drink becomes a much lighter color. Top each drink with Coconut whipped cream, drizzle of caramel sauce, and pinches of cinnamon.
  • Sip and enjoy!

Tips & Tricks

  • STORAGE (APPLE CIDER): Keep any leftovers in the refrigerator, tightly covered in your pitcher for up to 5 days. Can be frozen for up to 3 months and thawed in the refrigerator.
  • STORAGE (CARAMEL SAUCE): Leftover caramel sauce can be stored in a tightly sealed mason jar for up to two weeks. When ready to use, simply reheat sauce in the microwave at 15 second intervals until softened and at room temp.
