Traditional Jamaican Green Seasoning

Ingredients

SEASONING:

  • 1 bunch organic cilantro
  • ½ bunch organic parsley
  • 2 celery stalks, organic
  • 4 scallions (aka Green onions)
  • 10 garlic cloves (You can use as little as 6 cloves, if desired)
  • 8 whole pimento seeds
  • 1 onion (You can use red or yellow onion)
  • handful of fresh thyme sprigs
  • 1 scotch bonnet pepper
  • ½ red bell pepper
  • 1 inch ginger root, peeled
  • 1-2 freshly-squeezed limes
  • ¾ cup filtered water

Instructions

PREP THE VEGGIES:

  • For an easier blend, you can roughly chop all veggies (especially the larger ones) if desired.

TO MAKE THE SEASONING:

  • Add all of the ingredients to a high-powered blender and blend until smooth, about 1-2 minutes. NOTE: Add a bit more water if needed for a smoother consistency.
  • Add the green seasoning to your favorite mason jar or tightly sealed container and refrigerate for about a week for optimal freshness. 
  • To use in recipes, you'll need about 2-3 Tbsps of green seasoning which works perfectly on meats, seafood, soups, etc.

Notes

FREEZE FOR LONGER: You can prepare in large batches and freeze them in ice cube trays, after they are frozen, remove the cubes from the trays and store in freezer bags.
