Three glasses of Hubby’s Toasted Marshmallow S’Mores Coffee Mocktail with marshmallows.

Listen, ya'll. This drink is one that I'm so excited to share with you. If you're into creamier, decadent drinks--this one is for you! My Hubby’s Toasted Marshmallow S’Mores Coffee Mocktail is like a delicious chocolatey fusion of my Espresso Martini Mocktail meets S’Mores Overnight Oats inspired by my love for all things from childhood-----S'Mores to be exact! It's the perfect blend of sweetness and that comforting toasty coffee and marshmallow aroma that hits just right.

This mocktail is basically a slightly fancy + chilled version of a Starbuck's S'Mores Frappuccino without the frostiness. Now, I'm not big on alcohol and typically lean towards mocktails, but I made sure that there's an option to add it for those who don't mind it by opting in for chocolate liqueur and Kahlúa and your choice of alcohol.

You can totally switch things up and go caffeine-free with decaf coffee in this recipe too. It's a game-changer, making this S'Mores coffee mocktail accessible to everyone, minus the buzz. And the best part? With just a few ingredients and a bit of shaking (my favorite part, Haha), it's ready to enjoy in just 10 minutes.

If you're into chocolate and love trying out new ways to incorporate it, you've gotta give these a shot next: Chocolate Espresso Ice Cream, Best Vegan Chocolate Cake, Maple Chocolate Chip Banana Bread, Chocolate Oreo Skillet Brownie, Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Pancakes, and Chocolate Chip Chia Seed Muffins.

How To Make Hubby’s Toasted Marshmallow S’Mores Coffee Mocktail

This Toasted Marshmallow S’Mores Coffee Mocktail recipe is seriously so easy! It only takes 10 minutes of prep time. The first step is to make your freshly brewed espresso or coffee atop a piece of chocolate bar (I'm so obsessed with my Breville machine these days) and let everything cool completely for a nice smooth taste.

Then it's as simple as combining all the mocktail ingredients in a cocktail shaker, including some of the ice. Shake it up vigorously until everything's mixed + frothy. Then go ahead and pour the syrup mixture into your favorite cocktail or martini glass. If you like, top it off with toasted marshmallows, Graham crackers, or some shaved chocolate. Feel free to get creative with your favorite garnishes!

Ingredients

SMORES OVERNIGHT OATS:

  • Freshly-brewed espresso. Cooled. For a caffeine-free option, use a premium decaf coffee or black tea (boiled + steeped). To make this kid-friendly, use a great healthy alternative like Kiid Coffee.
  • Chocolate. Provides a rich, indulgent chocolate layer that brings the S’Mores theme to life. You'll brew the coffee atop the chocolate for the perfect melt and cool down before adding it to the mocktail. You can use a chocolate bar or chips. Choose vegan chocolate from Guittard or Hu's Kitchen for that option.
  • Vodka or Whiskey alternative. I like to use Ritual Zero Proof Vodka Alternative
  • Toasted marshmallow syrup. This is a game-changer syrup to add to the flavor profile! You can substitute with Torani's S'Mores syrup or make your own homemade syrup.
  • Almond milk. You can use your fave plant-based milk, if desired. Can also substitute with regular cow's milk.
  • Marshmallows. Gives a gooey, marshmallowy element that makes the mocktail taste like S’Mores. For the best results, I recommend toasting them! You can also use Marshmallow fluff! You can use vegan ones for a vegan option.
  • Graham crackers. Adds a crunchy, slightly sweet component; choose GF ones for a gluten-free version. Also, choose vegan ones like Partake Foods for a great vegan option.
  • Crushed ice.

  • Shaved chocolate. These add a dramatic touch and I love using my vegetable peeler for fancy chocolate shavings.
  • Cocoa powder – A light sprinkle atop everything perfectly enhances the chocolate-y flavor.
  • Whipped cream. You can use regular dairy whipped cream (if you aren't concerned with it being dairy-free) or coconut whipped.
  • Marshmallows. Toast a small marshmallow on a toothpick and place it on the rim of the glass for a playful touch.
  • Chocolate syrup. Drizzle chocolate sauce or syrup into the glass before adding the mocktail mixture for extra chocolate flavor and decoration.

How to Make Clear Ice Cubes without a Clear Ice Cube Mold

One of the greatest phenomenons when it comes to ice cubes has been seeing super clear ice cubes from those clear ice cube systems or molds and wanting to try it, but not necessarily wanting to have a huge contraption in my freezer. Haha. Anyone else feel my pain? Whelp, no need to worry----I've done my research and tested it out a bit and have found some solutions to help those of us who don't have any fancy system to making clear ice cubes. Here are a few ways:

Tip #1: It's best to use water that is distilled or super filtered to avoid gasses and dissolved oxygen, which are the two things that cause our ice to "fog up" when frozen.

Tip #2: Boil your water and freeze your water hot. Again, much to my previous point, this removes any dissolved oxygen or gasses. Just be sure to carefully pour the hot water into your ice cube tray or mold-----preferably one made from materials that naturally insulates like silicone. Also, ensure that your tray lays FLAT while freezing.

Tip #3: Slow freeze your ice cubes. This should be done for about 24 hours, which allows any impurities to be forced out of the ice---resulting in much clearer ice.

It's ideal to let the freshly brewed espresso or coffee cool at room temperature for at least 30 minutes before making the Toasted Marshmallow S’Mores Coffee Mocktail. Cooling the espresso/coffee helps to maintain the cool temperature of the mocktail and prevents the chocolate from being hardened when mixed with ice in the shaker. However, if you're short on time, you can chill the espresso/coffee more quickly by placing it in the freezer for about 15 minutes and omitting the chocolate and using chocolate syrup when assembling instead.

Can I use instant coffee instead of freshly-brewed espresso or coffee?

While freshly brewed espresso/coffee is preferred for its rich flavor and texture, you can substitute it with a strong brew of instant coffee. However, the taste and texture may vary slightly.

Absolutely! To make this mocktail caffeine-free, simply substitute with decaf coffee. To make this kid-friendly, simply omit the coffee and substitute with decaf black tea or a great healthy alternative like Kiid Coffee.

Craving s’mores for dessert or in a drink form? This Toasted Marshmallow S’Mores Coffee Mocktail gives you all the cozy, campfire vibes in the form of every sip. Just toast, brew, shake, and enjoy the best decadent drink you won't want to miss out on!
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 10 minutes
Serves: 1 serving

Ingredients

MOCKTAIL:

  • 2 shots freshly-brewed espresso/coffee, cooled
  • 1 oz. chocolate bar, premium (You can also use premium chocolate chips---about ¼ cup)
  • 1 oz. toasted marshmallow syrup (I love the brand Torani; You can also use their S'mores syrup)
  • 1 oz. Ritual Zero Proof Whiskey or Vodka Alternative
  • ½ cup Almond milk, unsweetened (You can use your fave plant-based milk, if desired)
  • Toasted marshmallows, for garnish
  • Graham crackers, for garnish (You can also use Teddy Grahams; Be sure to crush it very finely)
  • Shaved or chopped chocolate, optional
  • Ice

RIM GARNISH:

  • ½ cup melted chocolate
  • Crushed Graham crackers

Instructions

BREW THE CHOCOLATE-INFUSED ESPRESSO/COFFEE:

  • Using your favorite espresso machine, add the chocolate bar to a glass and brew the espresso/coffee atop the chocolate. NOTE: As the chocolate sits in the hot coffee, it should melt mostly or entirely. Let it cool completely!

TO RIM THE GLASS:

  • To make things more fancy, I love to add melted chocolate and Graham crackers to the rim of my glass(es). To do this, you'll simply need to dip the rim a bit in the melted chocolate that's laid out on a plate and then keeping it turned facing down, slightly moving it around in the crushed Graham crackers until covered. NOTE: For the best results, add the rimmed glass to the freezer for about 5-6 minutes so that the garnish "sets".

TO MAKE THE MOCKTAIL:

  • Add the Ritual Zero Proof Whiskey or Vodka Alternative and toasted marshmallow syrup together in a cocktail shaker (including a bit of ice), shaking vigorously until combined.
  • Assemble the mocktail: Using a cocktail glass, add ice (crushed or cubed) followed by the cooled chocolate-infused coffee, milk, and cocktail shaker mixture. Top with toasted marshmallows and Graham crackers, if desired. You can also add shaved chocolate as well.
  • Sip and Enjoy!

Tips & Tricks

  • SERVING: To make additional mocktails, simply double or triple ingredients, depending on need.
