When it comes to finding beauty products, I am not at all the expert. I often find myself browsing around various sites such as Sephora, MAC, Ulta Beauty, and so many others, looking at the latest and greatest based on reviews. I’ve never been the kind of girl to wear make-up and even now, I wear a bit of foundation, mascara, and a nice lip color on occasion. So for me, using a monthly subscription seems to be a good idea in a way that helps me discover great new products. One of the monthly subscriptions I’ve tried thus far is Birchbox. So far, 8 boxes later, I love the idea of being surprised with each box. It’s so fun and it’s pretty refreshing to have something delivered to your doorstep each month, especially when you’re a Mama. Sometimes self-care goes out the window and you find yourself feeling pretty “historic” and out of touch. Haha!
In June’s box, I received a nice hand cream, blush and bronze palette, photo finish foundation primer (by Smashbox), shampoo + conditioner, and a lip enhancer. In each box, you usually receive 5 samples, which vary in size depending on the brand. This month however, I was able to get an extra box using a promo code after re-subscribing. So I got two Birchboxes for the price of 1. Awesome! Haha! I’m currently awaiting on my July box, which ships soon. They usually ship by the 10th. Luckily, having a nice box shipped to me each month has been a bit rewarding and pretty cool when discovering new products. Unfortunately, however, I must say that having a subscription box isn’t always Ah-Mazing! It can definitely be a “hit or miss” when it comes to picking the right samples that work for you entirely. Sometimes I get things that I would NEVER use like dry shampoo or wave hair spray. Granted, those may work for another woman, but not for my natural hair. But I do enjoy the mascaras! I think I’m actually pretty obsessed with mascara actually. It’s super easy to apply (if you have a good one!) and it make my lashes extra thick and long. I also enjoy the fragrance samples because it’s nice to smell something in small quantity before deciding on buying it. Oh and any hand creams (that I can just throw in my bag) work perfectly as well. All in all, having a beauty subscription box is pretty cool, but it’s definitely not the main tool that one should use to discover beauty products entirely. They are limited in their variety and let’s face it, places like Sephora definitely has a lot more to choose from.
Birchboxes (like Ipsy and other subscriptions) make for a great gift and a nice monthly surprise at your doorstep each month, so give it a try if you’ve been trying to decide. There are things that I’ve discovered while using my Birchbox that I didn’t know otherwise, so there are some pros. It’s just what works for you. Once thing that I do LOVE are there boxes, which I use for other purposes as well. They are super cute and are decorated based on the month and theme. A great touch I might add.
Whelp, there you have it. Just a quick review of my experience thus far.
